Gender Affirming Care Evaluations
Dr. Poulakos is a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ+ community and takes very seriously his responsibility to provide gender affirming care. What is gender affirming care? At a very basic level, it is care that specifically prioritizes creating a non-judgmental, safe space for all patients. It includes having both a knowledge of gender identity, an appreciation of how one’s biological gender is not necessarily indicative of one’s gender identity, and ensuring that each individual is seen for who they are. Dr. Poulakos provides gender affirming care to all patients. In addition to being sensitive to one’s gender identity and conscientious of one’s pronouns, Dr. Poulakos also acknowledges gender fluidity, recognizing that his patients may not identify according to a dichotomous gender constructed. Poulakos believes gender affirming care goes beyond specific situations in which one may be considering surgery. It is about the whole patient experience. It is about validating one’s identity every step of the way. As a part of gender affirming care, Dr. Poulakos assists individuals that are exploring or actively undergoing gender affirming treatments (i.e. surgeries, hormone therapy, etc.) Members of the transgender and gender nonbinary (TGNB) community are disproportionally affected by mental illness such as depression and anxiety, and as such, it is important to Dr. Poulakos that these individuals have the support they deserve.
Gender-affirming care evaluations are a critical step in accessing medical treatments for transgender and non-binary individuals. Our New York practice offers comprehensive evaluations conducted by experienced psychiatrists, ensuring compassionate and expert care. We also provide virtual evaluations for your convenience.
